BarNet is delighted to announce its new computer recycling programme which combines security with environmental and social responsibility. The programme is open to all BarNet Users and all financial members of the Australian Bar Association or an Australian State Bar Association.
Since 2000, BarNet has operated as a not-for-profit entity supporting Australian barristers and their staff, regardless of location. This programme is one of a number of initiatives being pursued by BarNet to improve its environmental performance..
Computing equipment contains many heavy metals, organic compounds, and other pollutants which are best diverted from landfill. In the European Union and many States of the United States, the original manufacturer is required to provide for the safe disposal of a computer at the end of its life. Consumers are required to pay for the disposal costs of their equipment at the time of purchase. This requirement does not yet exist in Australia.
BarNet's computer recycling programme promotes the re-use or recycling of your computer or other electronic devices such as monitors or printers.
If you have equipment you would like to recycle please call or email BarNet and give us your details and a basic description of the equipment.
For BarNet Users based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, BarNet will arrange the collection of the equipment from you there may be a small charge for collection. In all other cases, you should deliver the equipment to the address specified by BarNet upon inquiry.
In providing the equipment, you warrant that you are the owner of that equipment and it is not the subject of any encumbrance or claim by any creditor.
For convenience, title to the equipment passes to BarNet upon receipt from you.
For all accepted equipment:
BarNet has decided to launch this service without charge to you depending on the level of interest it may be necessary at some stage to introduce a small charge to cover the operational costs of delivering this programme. For operational or commercial reasons, BarNet may restrict the scope of this programme to particular types of equipment, revise its terms, or terminate it without notice.
Signing up is free and only takes a few moments.
Information will be made available on BarNet's JADE Professional Legal Research Platform, to the National Library of Australia, and to AustLII.
